The liver is one of the most resilient organs in the human body. It performs over five hundred distinct functions, regenerates its own cells with remarkable efficiency, and can sustain significant damage before symptoms become apparent. But when the liver is under sustained attack from a viral, toxic, or autoimmune inflammatory process, as happens in hepatitis, its capacity to perform these functions is progressively compromised in ways that affect the whole body rather than just the organ itself.

Hepatitis simply means inflammation of the liver. The most common forms in the UK are caused by the hepatitis B and C viruses, which are transmitted through blood and bodily fluids and can establish chronic infection that persists for years or decades without obvious symptoms, silently damaging the liver tissue throughout. Hepatitis A is transmitted through contaminated food and water and is usually self-limiting. Hepatitis D occurs only alongside hepatitis B. Autoimmune hepatitis and toxic hepatitis from alcohol or medication are non-viral forms with different mechanisms but similar consequences for the liver tissue. Fatty liver disease, increasingly common, can also progress to a hepatitis-like inflammatory state.

The symptoms of hepatitis, when they do appear, include jaundice, abdominal pain and discomfort in the upper right abdomen, nausea, loss of appetite, dark urine, pale stools, fatigue, joint pain, and in some cases skin itching. Many people, particularly those with chronic viral hepatitis, have no noticeable symptoms for extended periods.

I want to be absolutely clear about the role of this programme before going any further. Viral hepatitis, particularly hepatitis B and C, requires specialist medical diagnosis and management. Modern antiviral medications for hepatitis B and C are highly effective and can prevent progression to cirrhosis and liver cancer when taken correctly. This programme is not a substitute for that treatment. Please do not begin any nutritional programme for hepatitis without first consulting your GP or hepatologist. What this programme offers is meaningful nutritional support for the liver and immune system alongside medical care, addressing the oxidative stress, nutritional deficits, and immune burden that hepatitis places on the whole body.

Section 1

Cleansing and Reducing the Toxic Load

This section runs throughout the programme, one to three months in total, and addresses the first priority: reducing the internal toxic and pathogenic load that places additional burden on an already compromised liver. The liver’s own detoxification capacity is impaired in hepatitis, and supporting the clearance of this load from multiple directions simultaneously is essential before the deeper restorative work can proceed effectively.

Coral Artichoke combines artichoke extract with milk thistle and dandelion, three of the most well-researched hepatoprotective botanicals available. Artichoke stimulates bile production and flow, improving the liver’s capacity to process and eliminate fat-soluble toxins. Milk thistle provides silymarin, a compound with both protective and regenerative properties specifically for liver cells, supporting the survival of healthy hepatocytes and stimulating the growth of new ones. Dandelion supports kidney function and lymphatic drainage, helping to clear the metabolic waste that the compromised liver cannot process alone. Take one capsule twice daily with food.

ParaFight provides a synergistic blend of twelve plant extracts, including black walnut, cloves, and garlic, targeting the pathogenic organisms that take advantage of a compromised immune and digestive system during hepatitis. Reducing the overall pathogenic and toxic burden in the gut directly reduces the volume of harmful material reaching the liver through the portal circulation, giving the organ meaningful relief. Take two capsules twice daily with food.

Coral-Mine provides structured, alkaline, mineralised water that supports the liver in its filtration work by improving blood rheology, supporting kidney clearance of water-soluble waste, and maintaining the electrolyte balance that all metabolic processes depend on. Drop one sachet into 1.5 litres of clean still water and sip throughout the day between meals.

Section 2

Liver Recovery and Cellular Protection

With the toxic load being reduced, this section focuses on directly protecting the remaining healthy liver cells from further damage and providing the structural materials they need to repair and regenerate. These three supplements address the phospholipid integrity of liver cell membranes, digestive enzyme support, and the antioxidant defence of the liver tissue itself.

Coral Lecithin provides phosphatidylcholine and other phospholipids that are the primary structural component of every liver cell membrane. In hepatitis, the inflammatory process damages and disrupts these membranes, impairing the functional capacity of the hepatocytes. Lecithin provides the raw material to restore membrane integrity directly, protecting surviving cells while also improving their capacity to perform the liver’s key metabolic and detoxification functions. Take one capsule three times daily with food.

Assimilator provides plant-derived digestive enzymes alongside vitamins A and D, reducing the digestive burden on a liver whose bile production and metabolic output may be impaired. By improving the breakdown and absorption of food, the Assimilator reduces the volume of undigested material passing into the portal circulation from the gut, directly decreasing the filtration demand on the liver. Vitamins A and D support the health of mucosal and immune tissue throughout the body. Take one capsule three times daily with food.

Selenium is one of the most important micronutrients for liver health and is a key component of the glutathione peroxidase antioxidant system that protects hepatocytes from the oxidative damage generated by the inflammatory process. Research has consistently found selenium levels to be significantly reduced in people with hepatitis, and supplementation has been shown to reduce markers of liver cell damage. Selenium also supports immune regulation, which is relevant both to viral clearance and to the autoimmune component of certain hepatitis presentations. Take one capsule daily with food.

Section 3

Immune Strengthening and Anti-Inflammatory Support

Hepatitis is fundamentally an inflammatory condition, and whether the trigger is viral, toxic, or autoimmune, reducing the intensity of the inflammatory response without suppressing the immune function that is fighting to clear the trigger is one of the central challenges of supporting the liver through this process. The three supplements in this section address this challenge from different angles simultaneously.

Liposomal Curcumin is one of the most comprehensively researched anti-inflammatory botanicals available and is directly relevant to hepatic inflammation. In its liposomal form, curcumin achieves significantly better bioavailability than standard turmeric preparations, reaching liver tissue in therapeutic concentrations. It inhibits multiple pro-inflammatory pathways, including NF-kB, and reduces the production of inflammatory cytokines that drive hepatocyte damage during the active phase of hepatitis. It also has direct antiviral properties and supports the liver’s own antioxidant systems. Take five millilitres once daily with food. Shake well before use.

Omega-3 TG provides EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids in triglyceride form for optimal absorption. Omega-3 fatty acids reduce systemic and hepatic inflammation through the prostaglandin pathway, support the restoration of healthy lipid composition in the liver cell membranes that curcumin is helping to protect, and improve the cardiovascular and immune function that is often compromised during extended illness. Take one capsule three times daily with food.

Liposomal Vitamin D3 provides vitamin D3 in a liposomal form for superior bioavailability. Vitamin D3 plays a direct regulatory role in the immune response and has been shown to modulate the inflammatory pathways that drive hepatic damage in viral hepatitis. Low vitamin D status is consistently associated with more severe hepatitis progression and poorer response to antiviral treatment. It also supports calcium absorption and bone health, which are secondary concerns in chronic liver disease. Liposomal Vitamin D3 is not currently listed in the Coral Club UK catalogue and can be sourced from health food shops and pharmacies.

Section 4

Supporting Energy, Digestion, and Overall Wellbeing

Hepatitis depletes energy, disrupts digestion, and generates a systemic burden of fatigue and discomfort that extends well beyond the liver itself. This final section addresses those broader consequences, supporting the whole body during and after the active phase of the condition.

PentoKan provides potassium, vitamin C, and D-ribose in an effervescent format that is easily tolerated even when appetite and digestion are impaired by the illness. D-ribose directly supports ATP production, restoring cellular energy in the liver and throughout the body. Vitamin C is an essential antioxidant and collagen synthesis cofactor, important for the connective tissue repair involved in liver regeneration. Potassium supports electrolyte balance and reduces the muscular weakness that accompanies chronic illness. Dissolve one effervescent tablet in a glass of water twice daily.

Coral Taurine provides the amino acid taurine, which has a direct role in liver detoxification through its involvement in bile acid conjugation, the process by which the liver converts bile acids into a form suitable for excretion. It also has hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties and supports the cardiovascular function that is sometimes affected in chronic liver disease. Take one capsule twice daily with food.

Chewable Papaya provides papain, which supports the digestion of proteins at a time when the liver’s contribution to digestive processing is reduced. By beginning protein breakdown in the mouth and upper digestive tract, Chewable Papaya reduces the demand on the liver’s own proteolytic capacity and on the gut’s reliance on liver-produced bile. It also supports comfortable, regular digestion during a period when nausea and appetite loss can make eating difficult. Take one tablet three times daily after food.

Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations

Diet is a powerful tool for supporting the liver during and after hepatitis. Exclude alcohol entirely and permanently: alcohol is directly toxic to liver cells and will significantly worsen any form of hepatitis regardless of its cause. Reduce fat intake, particularly saturated and fried fats, as impaired bile production makes fat digestion difficult and the metabolic processing of dietary fat places direct demands on compromised hepatocytes. Eat small, frequent meals of easily digestible, nutrient-rich foods. Increase vegetables, particularly cruciferous vegetables and those rich in antioxidants. Avoid raw shellfish, which carry a risk of additional viral infection particularly hazardous to a compromised liver.

Stay well hydrated with Coral-Mine water throughout the day. Rest adequately, as the liver performs most of its regenerative work during sleep and rest. Avoid all unnecessary medications, including over-the-counter pain relievers, particularly paracetamol, which is metabolised by the liver and can cause additional harm in the context of hepatic inflammation.

Please keep your GP or hepatologist informed of all supplements you are taking, as some may interact with prescribed antiviral or immunosuppressant medications. If you would like to discuss whether this programme is appropriate for your situation, please reach out through the contact page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need all twelve products?

The most essential products for hepatitis support are Coral Artichoke and Coral Lecithin for direct liver cell protection and bile support, Selenium for antioxidant defence of hepatocytes, and Coral-Mine as the daily hydration foundation. Liposomal Curcumin adds the most potent anti-inflammatory action and is worth prioritising if inflammation is significant. Assimilator and Chewable Papaya ease the digestive burden on the compromised liver. PentoKan and Coral Taurine support energy and broader liver metabolic functions. I am always happy to help you work out the right starting point.

How long before I notice any improvement?

Most people notice some improvement in energy levels, digestive comfort, and the general sense of wellbeing within three to four weeks of consistent use of the Section 2 and 4 products. Improvements in liver function markers, which are the most meaningful measure of progress in hepatitis, are best tracked through your regular blood tests with your GP or hepatologist. The programme runs for one to three months depending on your condition, as noted in the source programme recommendations.

Can I take this programme alongside prescribed antiviral medication for hepatitis B or C?

Please discuss every supplement in this programme with your hepatologist or prescribing doctor before starting. Some supplements, particularly those with immune-modulating properties like curcumin and selenium, may interact with certain antiviral medications. Your specialist needs the full picture of what you are taking and can advise on any specific combinations that require monitoring.

I have been told I have fatty liver disease rather than viral hepatitis. Is this programme relevant?

Fatty liver disease, particularly when it has progressed to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, shares many of the same inflammatory and oxidative mechanisms as viral hepatitis, and several supplements in this programme are directly relevant. Coral Artichoke and Coral Lecithin specifically support fat metabolism in the liver and bile flow. Liposomal Curcumin reduces hepatic inflammation. Selenium provides antioxidant protection to the liver cells. The dietary recommendations, particularly reducing fat, alcohol, and processed foods, apply equally to fatty liver disease. Please discuss with your GP before beginning.
