Do not share towels, face cloths, pillowcases, or clothing with other members of the household during the active infection. Change and wash bed linen and pillowcases daily at the highest temperature the fabric allows. Keep children away from school or nursery until the lesions have dried and crusted, or until forty-eight hours after starting antibiotic treatment as advised by your GP.
Cut fingernails short to reduce bacterial transfer from scratching. Bathe or shower daily with a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser. Pat the skin dry rather than rubbing. Following these measures consistently is as important as the supplements in preventing the spread and recurrence of impetigo.
